Klasing was selected by a group of his peers from 11 nominees out off a pool of approximately 90 eligible employees.
Klasing, who was also selected Employee of the Quarter for the quarter ending Sept. 30, was nominated by Electric Distribution Director Jeff Bergstrom. The nomination noted Klasing's work replacing batteries for a remote operated distribution switch that supplies Fitzgibbon Hospital. After completing the work, he was instructed to place the switch controls in the remote position before leaving the job site. As soon as he placed the control switch in the remote position he noticed a noise that he thought wasn't right and immediately repositioned the control switch. Further investigation determined that the noise was the distribution switch starting to open. If Klasing had not intervened the switch would have cycled open then closed indefinitely, and would have caused major power disturbances. According to Bergstrom, "Mark's quick thinking and actions prevented the loss of power to a very important customer."
In May 2001, Klasing began his employment with MMU as electrician, the position he holds today.
