Snow that blanketed the area Monday, Dec. 31, was wet and packable, great for snowballs and snowpeople.
But a drop in temperatures as 2012 gave way to 2013 made the snow on New Year's Day ideal for sledding.
In Marshall, sledders gathered at Indian Foothills Park and at Eastwood Elementary School to take advantage of the now-powdery white stuff.

With forecasts calling for temperatures to steadily rise over the coming week, possibly topping out in the mid-40s Jan. 8, it was a good thing sledders took advantage of conditions Tuesday, because the white stuff might not be around long.
