Earl Leroy Johnson, 63, of Slater, died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2012, at University of Missouri-Columbia Hospital in Columbia.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at First Baptist Church in Slater with Rev. Bruce Hess officiating. Inurnment with military honors will be in Gilliam Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association in care of Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.

Born Oct. 6, 1949, in Marshall, he was the son of the late Kenneth E. and Betty Durham Johnson. On April 23, 2011, in Australia, he married Clare (Casey) Young, who survives of the home. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He worked at Wilson Foods in Marshall for a number of years and later at Caterpillar in Boonville.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, John S. Johnson and James (Nick) Johnson, both of Slater; three grandchildren; three brothers, Clark Johnson of Warsaw, Leon Johnson and Kelly Johnson, both of Slater; and a sister, Vera Wiser of Warsaw.
