George F. Kiefer Jr., 92, of Mountain Home, Ark., passed away Dec. 29, 2012, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

A visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS 66210. Born Jan. 20, 1920, in Washington, Mo., he was the son of the late George and Helena (Nierdick) Kiefer. He attended public schools in Washington. He was a Firefighter in St. James before serving our country as a messman in the United States Merchant Marines aboard the ESSO Patterson during World War II. On Dec. 20, 1942, in Washington, he married Elinor Kahle, who preceded him in death on Sept. 14, 1992. After the war, they moved to Kansas City, where he worked for the Kansas City, Mo., Fire Department. He retired as a captain. He later worked for the Kansas City Star Circulation Department in Kansas City before purchasing the KC Star Route in Concordia.

Survivors include two daughters, Donna Noel of Overland Park, Kan., and Sharon Sprick of Adelaide, South Australia; his son, Doug Kiefer and his wife, Lisa, of Independence; a nephew, Charles Kiefer of Union; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandson.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Alvin and Wilbert Kiefer.
