John Alexander "Alex" Feik, 89, of Versailles, passed away Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles.

A memorial mass was held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church in Versailles, with Father C.D. "Bo" Ryan celebrating. The family received friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Fort Madison Cemetery in Fort Madison, Iowa. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church. Expressions of sympathy may be left online at www.kidwellgarber.com. Arrangements were under the direction and care of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Born May 11, 1923, he was the son of the late Franz and Marie Montag Feik who migrated to the United States from the Czechoslovakian/Austrian border on Sept. 22, 1920. He was united in marriage to Mary Mertens in September of 1963, and she preceded him in death. Later, on Dec. 18, 1999, in Versailles, he was united in marriage to Helen Samson, who survives at the home. He was a member of St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church in Versailles, and a life member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed gardening, taking care of his lawn and feeding the birds.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one brother, Bertram Feik and his wife, Marlene, of Columbus, Neb.; one sister, Judy Vydilal of Madison, Neb.; seven nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.
