Although the Sunflower Development Group project ended early in August, the question of whether to rezone the old Fitzgibbon Hospital at 868 S. Brunswick Ave. remains alive.

Property owner Pat O'Hanlon has asked to have the block on which the old hospital sits rezoned from the current planned development designation to R-2, residential.

O'Hanlon was represented at the Marshall Planning and Zoning Commission meeting Tuesday, Dec. 11, by his real estate agent, David Ferron.

Ferron told the commission that over the two years he has listed the building, most inquiries have come from outside the immediate area. He said residential projects appear to be the most likely fit for the former hospital.

Reaction to the request from commission members was mixed. Ultimately, the commission opted to hold a public hearing at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, to get more input.

More information to follow.
