MMU approves aerial photography bid

Tuesday, December 11, 2012

On Tuesday, Dec. 11, the Marshall Municipal Utilities Board of Public Works approved a bid from Surdex Corporation from Chesterfield for $13,500 for the complete project and an additional $450 per 7'x7' mosaic.

"We are definitely over budget, but that's what we're looking at," Underground Facilities Director Monty Chase said.

Vice President of the board Chuck Hird questioned the necessity of new pictures. The current pictures are six or seven years old, according to Chase.

"The main features are the GIS layer on the computers," Chase said. "The main thing is it's not the pictures here, its the information on the computer."

Chase said he uses the information on a daily basis.

"We use it multiple times a day," Electrical Distribution Director Jeff Bergstrom said. Bergstrom noted the information and photos help workers to prepare to go to different job sites.

The board also approved an insulated rubber gloves and sleeves policy proposed by Employee Relations Director Megan Baldridge and the purchase of rubber sleeves by Bergstrom. The new policy is a safety issue.

According to Bergstrom, some of the employee have rubber sleeves already, but it is up to them to use them. Now, however, using them will be required.

A motion to accept proposals for meter replacements at the water treatment plant was approved.

A proposal from Shafer, Kline and Warren was accepted to evaluate the condition of items that need to be painted at the water treatment plant, prepare plans and specifications for the project and assist in the bidding and contract phase for a lump sum of $33,300. The project is projected to cost a total of $407,500.

A bid from Spray Com Utilities Inc., in Knob Noster for $221,000 was approved for sewer main rehab using the cured-in-place pine method.

The 2012 MMU Christmas dinner will take place Friday, Dec. 14, at the Saline County Fairgrounds.

The board moved to go into closed session to discuss legal issues.

The next meeting will be Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013.
