BLUE SPRINGS -- Seven Marshall girls' swim team entries medaled by placing in the top six Tuesday at the season-opening Blue Springs South Duals.
Senior Kameron Godsey placed second by 1.24 seconds in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:19.99) and was third in the 200 individual medley (2:35.92). Sophomore Emily Raines took .32 seconds off her personal record in the 100 freestyle (1:01.84) -- second by only .19 seconds -- and placed sixth in the 100 backstroke (1:13.80).
A good debut was made by freshman Lauren Nichols with a sixth-place showing in the 100 breast (1:26.26), while senior Amber Lonaker came in sixth in the 100 butterfly (1:15.20) and seventh in the 200 free (2:27.86) -- the latter with a personal-best time.
Raines, Lonaker, Nichols and senior Kirby Brayman took the Lady Owls to fourth place in both the medley (2:14.51) and freestyle (1:59.95) relays.
Also setting new personal records were sophomore Kellen Renard in the 200 free (2:48.03) and junior Madison Gaba in the 100 breast (1:46.92).
Five newcomers also laid down times to begin their careers: junior Sam Ehrhardt, sophomores Abbi Harding and Tyra Harper, and freshmen Bethany Choate and Milisha Butner.
New head coach Stan Henderson couldn't make the trip for personal reasons, so assistant Jo Cramer was in charge.
Four swimmers posted state-qualifying times, but none for Marshall.
The Lady Owls will return to Blue Springs South for another meet Tuesday.
