Marshall senior Berry Benedick has been voted onto the Missouri Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association/Associated Press all-state football team for his performance during the 2012 season.

The 6-foot-2, 245-pound tackle was picked as a Class 4 second-team offensive lineman, the first Owl to make the list since running back Matt Jacobs did as a junior in 2008.

A first-team all-NCMC selection, Benedick led a revived Marshall offense which rushed for 2,402 yards and 24 touchdowns, averaging 5.0 yards per attempt and 218.4 yards per game. The Owls only allowed eight sacks in 120 quarterback drop-backs.

Also making the cut from the NCMC were senior first-team offensive lineman Jacob Borgmeyer and senior second-team defensive back Caleb Bieniek -- both of league champion Hannibal -- and senior second-team placekicker Rick Webb of Moberly.

The Owls improved from 0-10 in 2011 to 6-5 this season, reaching the semifinal round of the Class 4, District 6 Tournament -- the level which was formerly that of the regional playoffs.
