The fire was started by a failure of equipment or heat source and originated in the bathroom, according to the fire report.

Two Marshall Fire Department engines responded, and extinguished the fire with tank water and a foam. Two bedrooms and a bathroom were damaged. The fire was under control at 4:01 p.m.

The American Red Cross Heart of Missouri Chapter assisted the residents of the dwelling, according to American Red Cross Communications Manager Mike Flanagan.

"The Red Cross provided resources for the three clients to meet their immediate emergency needs with the purchase of food, clothing, seasonal clothing and a one-night stay in a local motel," the report stated. "Clients also received comfort kits, which contain personal hygiene items."
