First Christian Church to host 3rd annual chili supper, silent auction Dec. 7

Sunday, November 25, 2012

In conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce Downtown Christmas Parade, the First Christian Church is having its annual chili supper and silent auction from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7.

The event is part of what organizers said will be "a delightful small town, holiday evening."

The church is located on the northeast corner of the Marshall square, so families can warm up with chili or vegetable soup before or after watching the parade.

This event is a fundraiser for FCC's Outreach program. Proceeds will benefit The Marshall Senior Center, The Lighthouse Shelter, Habitat for Humanity, HEAT, The Community Food Pantry, Parents as Teachers, Mary Montgomery Hospice, Saline County Learning Center, Cub Scout Pack 45, Marshall Ministerial Alliance and the FCC Youth Ministry.

"The annual chili supper and silent auction has enabled First Christian Church to increase our giving to local organizations that help people here in our community," said organizer Ginger McGraw. "We appreciate all the support people show and hope they have a great time in this small-town tradition."

The dinner and auction will take place in the church's Fellowship Hall on the lower level. There is an elevator available for anyone who needs easier access.

Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children 4 to 8. Children 3 and under may eat for free. Tickets are available at the door, and carry-out is available.

The meal includes a bowl of homemade chili or vegetable beef soup, a ham sandwich or a hot dog, a homemade dessert and a drink.

The silent auction's proceeds will also benefit the church's Outreach program. More than 100 items are available, including:

--Vacations: A week's stay in a three-bedroom, three-bath townhouse in Georgetown, Colo., or a stay at a three-bedroom, three-bath townhouse in Breckenridge, Colo.

--Tickets: Two Chiefs vs. Colts football tickets on the 50 yard line, or four tickets to any 2013 show at The Arrow Rock Lyceum Theatre.

--Food: Dessert of the Month for a year, two quarter sides of processed beef, two slabs of smoked ribs or an angel food cake.

--Gift Certificates: Servpro, Vikings Athletic Goods, massage

--Handmade items: Quilts and afghans, Christmas crazy quilt stocking, quilted and cross-stitched Christmas pictures and table runners, embroidered tea towels, wreaths and more.

The items are divided into three groups. Bidding will close on the items in the groups at 7:30, 7:45 and 8 p.m.
