Letter to the Editor: Dedicated to voting

Voting is Important

It should be noted, that to one 97-year-old woman, voting was of the utmost importance.

Blanche Deal came in a wheel chair from her hospital bed to cast a vote. She is quoted with this statement, "I have voted every year since I was 21, and I surely don't want to miss this election."

Some of her friends had tried to get an absentee, but were told it was too close to election day.

Any other person might have given up and concluded that her one vote wouldn't matter, but not Blanche. As a loyal Democrat she felt compelled to exercise this important obligation. With much determination and her gift of persuasion, she was able to get the hospital to take her to vote.

A broken hip, advanced age and a hospital stay could not stop this determined woman. Perhaps this will serve as a model for the rest of us.

I have known Blanche for quite some time. She is an amazing and determined woman!
