Newscope: Artillery crew cancels, but re-enactment activities still on for Saturday

Friday, November 9, 2012

Due to unforeseen conflicts, the artillery unit that had planned to put on a demonstration Saturday, Nov. 10, as part of the Battle of Marshall 150th Anniversary Commemoration kickoff event will not be able to attend after all, organizers said.

However, Chris Fritsche with the Missouri State Museum will be on hand to give kids hands-on experience with the operation of Civil War-era cannons using the museum's air cannon.

Brad Harriman and other local re-enactors will also be available to do demonstrations and talk about their experiences reliving Civil War battles.

Harriman is a member of the 10th Missouri, Company E. Saturday is the 150th anniversary of the formation of the regiment.

Historian James Denny will deliver a lecture on the lead-up to the Battle of Marshall about 11 a.m. in Wood & Huston Community Room.
