The story takes place on Christmas Eve 1941, and the Rev. Oglethorpe has invited the Sanders family back to the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church to sing and witness, getting the congregation into the down-home holiday spirit before the boys, including one of the Sanders' own, are shipped off to World War II.
With the hilarious yuletide stories from the Sanders family along with more than two dozen Christmas carols and Gospel songs, this show promises to be richly entertaining, according to Lyceum officials.
In previous seasons, he has appeared on the Lyceum stage in "PumpBoys and Dinettes," "Hairspray" and as the director of "Always ... Patsy Cline," "Nuncrackers," "Nunsense," "Annie," "Big! The Musical," "Smoke on the Mountain Homecoming," "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" and "Bye Bye Birdie."
Caldwell most recently directed "Travels with My Aunt" and "Chaps!"
Making his Lyceum debut will be Eric Scott Anthony in the role of Burl. Anthony's many credits include "Ring of Fire" on Broadway and regionally. He has appeared in "Pump Boys & Dinettes" at TUTS in Houston and the Lyric Theater of Oklahoma; "Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story" at the Ogunquit Playhouse, the Flat Rock Playhouse and Lyric Theatre of Oklahomam; and "Smoke on the Mountain" and "A Sanders Family Christmas" at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium.
Marcy McGuigan returns to the Lyceum in the role of Vera. Lyceum audiences will remember Marcy as Miss Hannigan in "Annie" and Velma Von Tussle in "Hairspray."
McGuigan has also appeared in New York productions of "The Divine Sister," "Meet Me in St. Louis," "It's a Wonderful Life," "Shanghai Moon," "Swingtime Canteen" and "Box Office of the Damned."
Making her Lyceum debut in the role of June is Caitlin Morris.
Morris spent her summer at Williamstown Theatre Festival where she worked on productions of "Valley of Fear," "The Sandbox," "The Fall of Cafe Mudafier to the Toltecs" and a workshop of "Love's Labour's Lost."
She has worked with various theater companies in the city including Truffle Theatre Company, Red Fern Theatre Company, Fresh Ground Pepper and Lookingglass Theatre.
Also making his Lyceum debut, in the role of Stanley, is Steve Isom.
Isom has worked in theaters across the country and performed in more than 60 shows with many St. Louis companies including Stages St. Louis, Shakespeare Festival St. Louis, The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, Hotcity Theatre, Imaginary Theatre Company, New Jewish Theatre, TNT, Upstream Theater and the Muny.
Andrew Crowe makes his Lyceum debut as Dennis Sanders.
He has performed both "Smoke on the Mountain" and "Smoke on the Mountain Homecoming" at various theaters around the country, but this is his first time doing "Sanders Family Christmas."
Other credits include Shakespeare In The Park's "Twelfth Night" in New York City and the national tours of "Sweeney Todd," "Cabaret," and "Stand by Your Man."
Playing Denise Sanders will be Sharon Malane. She returns to the Lyceum stage after last appearing as Penny in "Hairspray," in "Annie" and as Minnie Fay in "Hello Dolly."
Other regional credits include "Leaving Iowa" at The Dixie Theater and "My Fair Lady," "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" and "Lilly's PPP" at STONC.
The production team consists of Director David Hemsley Caldwell, Scenic and Lighting Designer Randy B. Winder and Costume Designer Ray Kiely.
