Major A.F. "Slim" Closson, 93, of Jefferson City, died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, at St. Joseph's Bluff.

Private graveside services and entombment will be conducted in the Mausoleum of Hawthorn Memorial Gardens in Jefferson City. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the MASTERS, 5287 Highway 67 North, Poplar Bluff, MO 63901.

Born Feb. 9, 1919, in Keytesville, he was the son of the late James R. and Mary L. Knouse Closson. On May 1, 1948, in Independence, he married Doris M. Birgee, who preceded him in death on Oct. 9, 2010. He served in the United States Army during World War II in North Africa and Europe for which he was awarded two bronze stars. He was employed with the Missouri State Highway Patrol for 34 years, retiring as a major in 1979.

Survivors include three daughters, Karen Kay Closson of Jefferson City, Shirley Mueller of Eureka, and Betty Morrison and her husband, Travis, of Jefferson City; one son, James E. Closson and his wife, Ginny, of Marshall; eight grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Robert John Closson; six brothers; and eight sisters.
