RICHMOND -- Sophomore Ben Sporleder made it a clean sweep of medals during the regular season for the Marshall cross country team.
Sporleder (18:53) placed 27th among 116 entries Thursday in the Richmond Invitational, giving him nine medals in as many meets during his first campaign with the Owls. Junior James Elfrink (20:44) came in 73rd, improving his time 34 seconds on the course, and sophomore Zach Petzoldt (22:06) was 92nd.
Junior Roxana Avalos (23:27) picked up her eighth medal as Marshall's lone entry in the girls' varsity division, cutting one minute, nine seconds from her time from a year ago, while placing 32nd out of 78 runners.
Freshman Logan Davis (22:21) knocked 11 seconds off his personal record to lead the Owls' junior varsity boys with a 66th-place finish while sophomore Abigail Henke (24:25) was 15th among JV girls.
Although Christ Preparatory Academy (36 points) of Kansas City ran away with boys' title, West Platte senior Spencer Hudson (16:56) won the gold medal by 26 seconds. Freshman Olivia Dugan (22:35) led Notre Dame de Sion (18) of Kansas City to the team title, the Stars taking the top four spots.
Marshall will head to Moberly on Saturday for the Class 3, District 5 Championships.
