The Lady Owls' No. 1 doubles team of sophomore Molly Evans and senior Stephanie Markes will make the trip following their win Tuesday in the Class 1, Section 4 Tournament at Marshall. The Lady Owls combo defeated seniors Jamie Bader and Allison Jung of St. Charles-Duchesne, 6-1, 6-4, coming back from an early 3-2 deficit in the second set.
For both Evans, the NCMC No. 1 singles champ, and Markes this will be their first trip to the state tournament.
Also qualifying in doubles was the Moberly duo of senior Naomi Lewis and junior Emily McCarter, defeating a pair from Palmyra, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4.
Advancing in singles were the winners of the two matches, Kirksville senior Kinsey Helton -- the two-time District 8 champion -- shutting out junior Jennifer Fabian of St. Charles' Barat Academy, 6-0, 6-0, and senior Nicole Savant of St. Dominic in O'Fallon defeating Moberly senior Katie Matheis, 6-2, 6-1.
The state meet will be held Oct. 19-20 at the Cooper Tennis Center in Springfield.
BOONVILLE -- Senior Ben Valencia and sophomore Isai Trujillo each had a goal and an assist Tuesday to lead the Marshall boys' soccer team to a 3-0 NCMC win at Boonville.
The Owls held a commanding 14-1 lead in total shot attempts, but put only five of them within the frame -- including Valencia's penalty kick to break a scoreless tie in the 11th minute of the second half.
The Pirates kept Marshall from adding to its lead until Valencia fed Trujillo for his team-high 14th goal of the season with six minutes remaining in the match. Trujillo set up junior Bryan Sandoval two minutes later.
The Owls' back line of seniors Wilber Palma and Jeremy Sporleder and juniors Chris Medrano and Robert Ramirez didn't allow Boonville (4-14, 0-9 NCMC) to get off a shot on goal as senior Isaac Phillips posted his sixth shutout of the season.
Marshall (9-6, 7-2) will be at home Thursday for a non-conference contest against eighth-ranked Helias.
BOONVILLE -- Senior Bailey Pfeiffer's seven kills, 10 assists and three aces paced Boonville during a 25-20, 25-18 NCMC home win Tuesday over the Marshall volleyball team.
The first game was tied at 20-all through two full rotations, but the Lady Pirates got sideout and pulled away on four Pfeiffer serves. Boonville used a 10-3 run during the middle of the second set to open up a 19-13 cushion and didn't allow the Lady Owls to get closer than four points.
Junior Kristen Hoff came up with 17 digs for the Lady Pirates (13-5-1, 5-2 NCMC).
Marshall got six kills from freshman Abbie Lemmons and five by junior Karson Heying. Juniors Kendra Castle and Analee Tucker came up with nine digs between them, while senior Jawshawna Terry and sophomore Morgan Thompson each provided seven assists.
The Lady Owls (8-14-2, 2-6) host Mexico for a league match Thursday.
