YMCA awarded NAP credits for improvements

Tuesday, October 2, 2012

Salt Fork YMCA officials are pleased to announce they have been awarded the Neighborhood Assistance Program 70 percent tax credits in the amount of $330,404. The improvement projects at the Y will total $472,007 from the donations received from the tax credits.

Those improvements include a new dehumidification system for the aquatics area; new lockers for the locker rooms; removing the carpet in the cardio, free weight area and kid's gym, and replacing it with rubberized flooring; new LED lighting in the aquatics area and parking lot; technology upgrades; new flooring for locker rooms; new signage; a video security system; and a parking lot asphalt overlay.

By receiving the NAP tax credits, these much needed improvements can be made to the facility without a direct expense to Y members. The tax credit money received is not available for general operating expenses and is not available for scholarship money.

The Salt Fork YMCA does not turn anyone away due to inability to pay for programs and/or membership. Those that can't afford to pay full price can apply for a scholarship that is made possible through the annual Strong Kids, Strong Families Campaign. In 2011, the Y gave back more than $100,000 in donations through in-kind or direct scholarship to the community and received $66,000 in contributions to our campaign.

The Y would like to thank the community for its generous support over the past 16 years, and looks forward to continuing to serve the community for many years to come.
