Everett E. Chess Jr., 70, of Marshall, died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012, at University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at Second Baptist Church in Slater with Rev. Glenn Elmore officiating. Burial will be in Mount Moriah Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Born Nov. 27, 1941, in Chicago, Ill., he was the son of the late Everett E. Chess and Lola Washington Parker. On Sept. 8, 1963, in Marshall, he married Julia Parker, who survives of the home. He was a member of Second Baptist Church in Slater. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of the American Legion Post #178 in Slater. He retired from the Marshall Habilitation Center laundry department in 2000 after 26 years of service.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Everette Chess III of Slater and Stanford Jackson of Jefferson City; five daughters, Denise Pollard of Marshall, Veronica Boothe of Columbia, Wilma Chess of Marshall, Cynthia Johnson of Marshall and Genia McKee of Boonville; two brothers, Royce Parker and Ronnie Parker, both of Peoria, Ill.; one sister, Joyce Ganaway of Slater; along with numerous grand and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Juanita Chess; three brothers, Zeke Parker, William Parker and James Parker; and one sister, Mary Ruth Walton.
