Flags representing each branch of the U.S. military as well as the U.S. Flag, the POW-MIA flag and the Honor and Remembrance Flag were flown during the National POW-MIA Remembrance Day ceremony Sept. 21. Charlie Guthrie of American Legion Post 78 says the Remembrance Flag, which was incepted in 2009, holds deep symbolism: the red symbolizes the blood that was spilled by veterans, the while stands for purity of their sacrifices, the blue star represents those that have served our country, the gold star stands for those who've lost their lives, the folded flag is a final tribute for a departed soldier and veteran and the eternal flame never goes out so that we will always know POWs and MIAs are not forgotten.
