Vincent R. Newcomb, age 89, of Carrollton, passed away Friday, Sept. 7, 2012, at Carroll County Memorial Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, at Bittiker Funeral Home in Carrollton. Vincent's nephew, Reverend Gerald Brown will be officiating. Burial will be held in Greenwood Cemetery in Bolivar at a date which is yet to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Carrollton Christian Church Memorial Fund.
Born June 20, 1923, he was the son of the late Henry A. and Nina L. (Hascall) Newcomb. On Sept. 17, 1949, he married Barbara J. (Allen) Newcomb, who preceded him in death. He was a graduate of Bolivar High School in 1941 and Drury College in 1968. He had a varied work life including working many years as a plasterer, then was a cemetery sextant, and in the five years before retirement, he and Barbara owned and operated a dry cleaners. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy and lived most of his working life in Bolivar and moved to Carrollton in 1988.
He is survived by two sons, Dr. Richard L. Newcomb and his wife, Kathryn, of Carrollton and Dr. Rex A. Newcomb and his wife, Susan, of Marshfield; daughter-in-law, Mary Newcomb of Bolivar; five grandchildren, April Drummond of Kansas City, JoAnna Beck and her husband, Matt, of Evansville, Ind., Brett Newcomb of Honolulu, Hawaii, Mallory Newcomb of Springfield, Katie Newcomb of Marshfield; three great-grandchildren, Jerin Hudgens of Carrollton, Taylor Drummond of Kansas City and Levi Beck of Evansville, Ind.; two brothers, Charles Newcomb of San Jose, Calif., and Paul Newcomb of Fort Worth, Texas.
In addition to his his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Dale W. Newcomb; granddaughter, Jennifer Newcomb; three sisters, Violet Cook, Louise Brown and Juanita Langford; five brothers, Valentine, Therial, Homer and Arthur Newcomb and Robert Baney.
