Nelda E. Clemons, 74, of Marshall died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012, at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, at First Christian Church in Marshall with Rev. Randy Shannon and William W. Harlow officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Marshall. Pallbearers will be Bob Zebe, Ernie Hammer, William Ryan, Joey Riley, Rick Bailey and David Coslet. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Clemons, Nolan Clemons, Trey Clemons, Connor Mapes, Robert Carrico and Justin Smith. Memorials are suggested to the Marshall Animal Shelter or Community Cancer Center in care of Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.

Born Jan. 17, 1938, in Higbee, she was the daughter of the late William Ernest and Lovella Kirby Piper. She was a 1956 graduate of Marshall High School and attended Missouri Valley College in Marshall. She worked in the Saline County Courthouse for 32 years until her retirement, first as deputy county assessor and later serving two terms as Saline County assessor. She was an avid card and bingo player.

She is survived by a son, Michael R. Clemons and his wife, Julie, of Marshall; a daughter, Kimberly A. Mapes and her husband, Don, of Champaign, Ill.; nine grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and a brother, John Piper and his wife, Carolyn, of Fair Grove.

She was preceded in death by a son, John Mark Clemons and a sister, Beverly Anne Piper.
