Softball: Paris 11, Slater 1

Wednesday, September 5, 2012

PARIS -- Paris scored eight runs in the third inning Tuesday to open the Lewis and Clark Conference softball campaign with an 11-1, five-inning victory over visiting Slater.

The Lady Wildcats held an early lead when freshman Jordan Allen stroked a two-out single and came around on senior Doran Vaillancourt's double in the second inning. After junior Mary Rose Gonzalez got out of a two-on, one-out jam in the bottom of the frame, Slater's defense created problems in the third.

Three of the first four batters for the Lady Coyotes reached base on errors to start the frame. Junior Danielle Bounds kept the rally going with a two-out single to plate a pair of runs. Another Slater miscue preceded RBI singles by juniors Catie Nobis and Josey Ball and senior Payton Gruber.

Bounds knocked in two runs with a double in the fourth to give Paris (4-2, 1-0 L&C) the 10-run lead it needed to put an early end to the contest.

Vaillancourt had two hits for the Lady 'Cats (0-5, 0-1), who return home Thursday to meet league foe Marceline.
