Margie Louise Hester Hay, 76, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012, in Independence.
Cremation. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012, at Calvary Baptist Church, located at 1915 N. Liberty St. in Independence, with Pastor Scott Beaman officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association, American Cancer Society or Calvary Baptist Church.
Born March 1, 1936, in Bay, Ark., she was the daughter of the late Rev. Elmer Hester Sr. and Lorene Walker Hester. She had been a resident of Sedalia, Concordia, Sweet Springs and Mt. Leonard. She was a homemaker and an active member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was a volunteer at Centerpoint Medical Center. She taught sewing and quilting classes. She baby-sat for many years around the Independence area.
She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Herzog and her husband, Robert, of San Antonio, Texas, and Lisa McCoy and her husband, James, of Lenexa, Kan.; two sons, Mitch Hay of Independence and Jeff Hay and his wife, Lori, of College Station, Texas; three grandchildren, Chris James, Sierra Mccoy and Jared Hay; one great-grandchild, Jaxson McCoy; one brother, Gene Hester and his wife, Mary, of Jonesboro, Ark.; and three sisters, Evonne Trelow and her husband, Merle, of Mt. Leonard, Jeanette Rush and her husband, Bill, of Walnut Ridge, Ark., and Diane Ladwig and her husband, Gary, of Lee's Summit.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer Hester Jr. and Carl Hester.
