Softball: Otterville 8, Slater 5

Tuesday, August 28, 2012

SLATER -- The Slater softball team attempted to come back from a five-run deficit in the seventh inning, but fell short Monday during an 8-5 non-conference home loss to Otterville.

The Lady Eagles' first six runs were unearned, although senior Hannah Stone plated two with a single in the third inning and freshman Natalie Schoen and sophomore Morgan Steck came up with RBI singles in the fifth.

A walk and singles by seniors Sara Reynolds and Kaylee McEachern produced two runs for the Lady Wildcats in the bottom of the sixth, closing the gap to 6-3, but Otterville got back-to-back doubles from Stone and junior Lisa Roberson -- along with a run-scoring single by freshman Bobbie Jo Schoen -- to extend its lead.

An error, Reynolds' RBI triple and a grounder got Slater to within three runs, but Stone didn't allow any more to preserve the win for the Lady Eagles (2-1).

Slater (0-2) will cross the Highway 240 bridge today for a non-conference clash at Glasgow.
