Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012, at Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City, with Rev. Ed Hankinson officiating. Interment will be in Montgomery City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to First United Methodist Presbyterian Church in Montgomery City in care of Schlanker Funeral Home, 207 Danville Road, Montgomery City, MO 63361. Born Nov. 23, 1915, in Saline County, she was the daughter of the late John Harvey and Minnie Swain McClain. She attended high school in Miami and graduated in 1934. On Jan. 12, 1935, in Sedalia, she married William H. "Jack" Murphy who preceded her in death. In 1939 they moved to Moline, Ill. In 1945 they returned to Wellsville. In 1959 they bought a farm near Smithton and later moved to Sedalia where she owned and operated Jo's Beauty Shop until her retirement in 1980. She was a member of First United Methodist-Presbyterian Church of Montgomery City and was a fifty-year member of the Order of The Eastern Star.
She is survived by one daughter, Jacqueline Bishop and her husband, H. Calvin, of Montgomery City; one son, William (Bill) Murphy and his wife, Sara, of Ft. Meyers, Fla; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by six siblings, Marvin McClain, Viola Larson, H.E. "Jeff" McClain, Lula Gilliam, C.P. "Com" McClain and Earnest McClain.
