Eugene L. (Gene) Balicki, 90, of Slater, died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012, at Big Bend Retreat in Slater.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Slater, with Fr. Richard W. Frank officiating. Inurnment will be in Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Salvation Army or St. Jude Childrens Hospital in care of Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.
Born April 26, 1922, in Chicago, he was the son of the late Anthony E. and Rose Osowki Balicki. On Oct. 3, 1940, in Fort Sheridan, Ill., he married Muriel G. Schilling, who preceded him in death on July 22, 2008. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Slater. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a member of the American Legion Post #78 and the V.F.W. Post #4367. He retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company after 39 years of service as a lineman. He had been a licensed pilot and owned his own airplane.
He is survived by a daughter, Gail De la Fuente, of Rosarito, Mexico; three grandchilren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Clifford Balicki.
