A basket of produce entered in the Farmers' Market/Community Garden competition at the Missouri State Fair won first place and Best of Show, according to Marshall Market on the Square President Kristie Price.

Baskets can contain nine varieties of produce, Price said, and a number of regular Market on the Square vendors were represented, including Ronda Boyer, Martha Self, Shawn Kennedy, Barbara Taylor, James Byler, Mary Slater, Jerry Murphy, Tyler Aldredge, Chris Fuchs and Price.

Marshall's farmers' market is open each Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to noon through Sept. 29. In addition to vegetable produce vendors, the market offers fresh meats, homemade breads, hand-crafted items and jewelry. Live music is also provided by local musicians.
