Work at Salt Fork YMCA is transforming the facility's old look, and could transform the energy exerted by patrons.

"We're beginning our 14th year of operation," said YMCA Executive Director Suzanne Smith. "The upstairs has never been painted."

Beginning early Monday morning, staff and volunteers began repainting the entire facility in vibrant hues of blue and green. Rather than institutional-feeling white walls, patrons will have energetic colors surrounding their workouts.

To complete the annual maintenance projects, the Y will be closed throughout the week and will reopen Monday, Aug. 13.

"This is the first time we've closed for one week," Smith continued.

Typically, wood floors are refinished, however officials felt that wasn't a priority for this year and will focus on much-needed cleanup and revamping. Patrons can expect to find cycling and the fit zone in new areas of the building when they return to their regular routines.

"It's real exciting," Smith added. "(I'm) excited to see people come in and see their reactions to the changes that we've made."

More than 50 volunteers are putting time into the projects this week, as the Y makes an effort to establish an updated look. Salt Fork YMCA is located at 740 E. Yerby St. in Marshall.
