Van E. Jones, 86, of Sedalia died Thursday, July 26, 2012, at Missouri Veterans' Home, Warrensburg.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 28, 2012, at Rea Funeral Chapel, Sedalia with Father Jim Betzen officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Pallbearers are Martin Jones, Barrett Sutton, Lawrence Jones, Dr. Fred Bodenhamer, Rick Pettit and Dr. Bret Bodenhamer. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Clifton City. Memorial contributions are suggested to Sacred Heart School or the Missouri Veterans Home, Warrensburg.
Born Dec. 25, 1925, in Nelson, he was a son of Elmo and Flossie (Van Horn) Jones.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, proudly serving from 1942 to 1947. He was married to Joanna Mitchell until she passed away on Dec. 23, 1978. He and Joanna were the parents of three children, who survive. On July 17, 1982, he was married to Marie E. Bodenhamer, who survives of the home. He was active in sports. In high school he played basketball. He was an avid water skier, motorcyclist and piloted a small airplane. He was retired from the State of Missouri.
Survivors include three children, Lawrence Jones, Pensacola, Fla.; Carol Boling, Marshall; and Martin Jones, Marshall; two stepchildren: Dr. Fred Bodenhamer, of Jefferson City; and Patsy Pettit of Sedalia; one grandchild; and four step-grandchildren.
