CONCORDIA -- The LaCoMo East All-Star won its first game in the Little League Minor League State Tournament at Concordia, but dropped the next two outings to finish third.
The 10-and-under girls' squad -- consisting of players from Marshall, Malta Bend, Sweet Springs and Concordia -- opened the meet Friday with a 16-3 victory over Perryville.
Most of the damage was done in the bottom of the first inning, a nine-run explosion which included a two-run double by Hannah Marshall, Lauren Eagle's run-scoring double and RBI singles from Abbie Marshall and Averi Eckhoff -- who began the rally with a lead-off single.
Nine walks, four with the bases loaded, and Eagle's two-run single led to seven runs in the second.
Hannah Marshall didn't allow a hit during her two innings of work in the circle, Perryville picking up three runs off a reliever during the last two frames.
LaCoMo was beaten in Saturday's semifinal by Columbia, 17-8, although took an early lead with a five-run second inning -- Lynda Bennett delivering the big blow with a bases-loaded triple. Eagle followed with a tripe and a walk to Bennett with the sacks packed extended East's advantage to 5-1.
Columbia tied the contest with four runs in the bottom of the second and added six more runs in the third before LaCoMo scored twice -- Bennett delivering an RBI double -- in the fourth and Chelsea Dillon added triple to plate a run in the fifth.
However, Columbia scored three runs during its final two at-bats to pull away.
On Sunday, Webb City eliminated East by an 11-1 margin. After falling behind 3-0 during the first two stanzas, LaCoMo drew three walks in the third to plate a run on Dillon's steal of home. However, it didn't get a hit during the game and Webb City answered the lone run against it with a five-run third -- tacking on three more tallies in the fourth.
Webb City defeated Joplin on Monday, 2-0, for the state title. LaCoMo East finished its post-season run with a 4-2 record.
