OMAHA -- The Marshall Mud Hounds baseball club reached the championship bracket of the USSSA 11-and-under Class AA World Series last week at Omaha. Coming out of pool play as the No. 12 seed in the 16-team championship bracket of teams from Missouri, Colorado, Kansas, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Nebraska and South Dakota, the Mud Hounds were eventually eliminated Saturday by the eventual runner-up, the Elkhorn (Neb.) Red Lightning. A nice crowd from Marshall attended the tournament, providing plenty of cheers during the opening ceremonies at Werner Park, according to coach John Makings. Taking part in team skills competition, the Mud Hounds placed third in base-running. The team also attended the Pacific Coast League game between the Omaha Storm Chasers, the Kansas City Royals' AAA affiliate, and the Iowa Cubs. Playing for the Mud Hounds were (bottom row, from left) Steve Elwell, Chaz Holloway, Trevor Borgman, Hollis Makings, Trey Beerman, (middle row) Keenan Borgman, Spencer Starr, Connor Tichenor, Isaac Yung, Duffin Makings and Brody Jacobson -- coached by (top row) Darin Starr, Jim Beerman and John Makings. The Mud Hounds close out the summer next week by playing in the Show-Me Games at Cosmo Park in Columbia. (Photo contributed)
