First day of Central District FFA fair wraps up

Marshall FFA member Blayne Vogel exhibited the Overall Best of Show Rabbit at the Central Missouri District FFA Fair held on Monday, July 16 at the Saline County Fairground. He also won the Grand Champion Meat Pen and Grand Champion single fryer.
Hundreds of FFA members from across Missouri and their projects converged on the Saline County Fairground on Monday, July 16 for the annual Central District FFA Fair.

Several area students did well in the first day of shows, according to preliminary results.

Marshall FFA member Blayne Vogel exhibited the Best of Show Rabbit with a doe named Mae. Sabrina Moore of Fort Osage FFA had the Reserve Best in Show Rabbit with a buck. Vogel also won the Grand Champion Meat Pen and Grand Champion single fryer. The judge was Sharon Stephens of Grand Pass.

Allison Wagoner of Crest Ridge FFA exhibited the Grand Champion Ram. She also won High Point Individual.
The Sweet Springs FFA chapter swept the all of the champion swine categories and took first again in Chapter Sweepstakes with the highest total points. The Grand Champion Market Hog was exhibited by Austin Boland, while the Reserve Grand Champion Market Hog was shown by Kati Viets. Taylor Loges showed the Overall Champion Gilt with a Duroc, while her sister, Olivia Loges' crossbred won the Overall Reserve Champion Gilt. Sweet Springs' Spencer Thomas won Champion Showmanship.

The High Point individual plaque was awarded to Joseph Limback of Eldon FFA.

In the Sheep Show, Tyler Jenkins of Malta Bend FFA showed the Grand Champion Ewe, while Jade Jenkins of Marshall FFA exhibited the Reserve Grand Champion Ewe. Jesse Mackeprang of Appleton City FFA showed the Grand Champion Market Lamb and Tyler Jenkins exhibited the Reserve Grand Champion Market Lamb. The Showmanship award was presented to Jade Jenkins. The Grand Champion Ram was shown by Allison Wagoner of Crest Ridge FFA, who also won the high point individual. The Chapter Sweepstakes Award was presented to Appleton City FFA. The judge for the swine and sheep shows was Parker Henley of Eugene.

The Grand Champion Poultry exhibit was won by Julie Crouch of Lincoln FFA. Her rooster, named Roadside, because he was found on the side of the road, also won Champion Chicken.

Bailey Coyer of Sweet Springs won the Reserve Champion Poultry award with a White Crested Blue Polish Bantam Rooster named Twin. The Champion Waterfowl was exhibited by BreAnne Houghtaling of Fort Osage FFA, while Tim Russell of Warrensburg had the Reserve Champion Waterfowl. The judge was Kim Cash.

In the Horse Show, plaques for High Point Individual and Chapter Sweepstakes were not presented and individual results were not yet available.

In other preliminary results, Gabe Sparks of Eldon was the Grand Champion in Ag Mech and Tyler Miller of Pleasant Hill was Reserve Champion.

The Central District FFA fair continues on Tuesday, July 17 with the beef cattle, goat and dairy shows.
