Mildred E. Charles, 92, of Marshall, died Sunday, July 8, 2012, at Mar-Saline Manor in Marshall.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, July 13, 2012, at First Baptist Church in Marshall with Rev. Wayne Doolin and Rev. Vernon Maxted officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church and memorials may be made to First Baptist Church in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home. Born Jan. 17, 1920,, near Malta Bend, she was the daughter of the late Walter Simmons and Anna Huckaby Simons. She was a graduate of Malta Bend High School and Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg. On June 4, 1942, she married William W. (Bill) Charles, who preceded her in death on March 18, 1997. She was a member of Mt. Leonard Baptist Church and in 1942, she transferred her membership to First Baptist Church in Marshall where she taught Sunday school for 40 years. She was also a member of WMU and had served as director.

Survivors include one daughter, Patricia Ann Merrill and her husband, Wayne, of Columbia; one son, Lawrence W. (Larry) Charles of Marshall; five grandchildren, Jennifer R. Skinner and her husband, Will, of Marshall, Kindra K. Wade of Marshall, Amy L. Charles of Marshall, Martha E. Ellebracht and her husband, Dan, of O'Fallon, and Amanda K. Thiele and her husband, Jeremy, of Columbia; six great-grandchildren, Tucker, Charles and Abigayle Skinner, and Lilly, Molly and Bethany Wade, all of Marshall; along with several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Marvin Wesley Charles; two sisters, Ethel L. Simmons and Gladys Z. Rearick; one brother, Ellis Lawrence Simmons; and a daughter-in-law, Gayle Charles.
