Gerritt Murphy had a very nice week to close out the Marshall Junior Tennis Association's summer season. Murphy (above), the Owls' No. 1 singles player as a freshman during the spring, began the week Monday, June 25, by winning the High School division of the MJTA Rally. He followed it up with a pair of victories in the Indian Foothills Park Tournament, taking first place in the 16-and-under boys' class Thursday and teaming with 14-and-under singles winner Isaac Summers to take the 18-U boys' doubles title Friday. Over 70 players took part in the tourney, which concluded a season of instruction and competition. Murphy and Summers weren't the only one to parlay Day 1 victory into Day 2 success. After winning the 10-and-under girls' singles, Hannah Pomerenke teamed with boys' champion Trey Beerman for the doubles crown. So did 12-U girls' and boys' winners Anna Hartley and Logan Evans for the 14-and-under doubles championship. The other first-place finishers in singles were Kaylee Smith (14-U), Hannah Weichman (16-U) and Bailey Busse (18-U) among girls and Deeno Aguit (18-U) among boys. The 18-and-under girls' doubles gold medal went to Idalia Aguilar and Amanda Harrelson. (Chris Allen/Democrat-News)

It would be nice to hear about all of the awards given out during the two tournaments, as opposed to only recognizing those that recieved first place awards.
