Joseph Lincoln Knight, 81, of Sedalia, passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at Sylvia Thompson Residence Center in Sedalia.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 2, 2012, at Rea Funeral Chapel. Family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, July 1, 2012. Pallbearers will be Doug Knight, Jesse Kindle, Zel White, Steven Wansing, Kelly Wansing and Scott Wansing. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Sweet Springs. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Pettis County American Cancer Society in care of the funeral chapel. Condolences may be conveyed to the family at www.reafuneralservice.com.

Born Feb. 12, 1931, he was the son of the late Washington and Viola Vinyard Knight. On April 5, 1953, in Sweet Springs, he married Wilma Jean Elwell, who survives of the home. He served his country honorably for 41 years in the Missouri Army National Guard, retiring as MSGT on Feb. 16, 1991. He loved to bowl, fish and work on cars. He owned and operated Joe Knight Auto & Truck Service, where he built cars and loved racing them.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three children, Dianna Lynn Kindle and her husband, Riley, of Kalispell, Mont., Joseph Douglas Knight and his wife, Shawn, of Sedalia, and Barbara Elaine Treese and her husband, John, of Bonner Springs, Kan.; one sister, Karen Kreisel and her husband, Eldon, of Marshall; one brother Bill Knight of Sunrise Beach; six grandchildren, Julie, Jesse, Holly, Sarah, Megan and Josi; and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Jean Petty and a grandson, Adam Kindle.
