Martha A. Brooks, 83, of Marshall, died Monday, May 28, 2012, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 31, 2012, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall with William W. Harlow officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. Born July 23, 1928, in North Chicago, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Felix Serkowski and Antonina Bajorek Serkowski. On May 1, 1952, in Waukegan, Ill., she married P. Mac Brooks who preceded her in death on Feb.12, 1997. She was a graduate of Waukegan High School. She was a graduate of Missouri Valley College where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics and was a member of Delta Zeta sorority. She taught mathematics in Marshall Public Schools for two years. She lived in Marshall most of her life, was a member of the First Christian Church and was involved in Girl Scouts, serving as a scout leader.
Survivors include one son, Perry M. Brooks Jr. and his wife, Debbie, of Marshall; one daughter, Ann L. Brooks, D.V.M., of Huntley, Ill.; one stepgrandson, Brandon Gaddy and Tina Crable; one stepgreat-granddaughter, Aryanna Gaddy; one sister, Phyllis Johnsen of Lake Forest, Ill.; one brother, Joseph Serkowski of Waukegan, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Florence Hansen; and one brother in infancy, Leo Serkowski.
