Hannibal blanks Owls, 5-0

Wednesday, April 25, 2012

HANNIBAL -- Sophomore Eric Hugenberg tossed a five-hit shutout at the Marshall baseball team Tuesday to give Hannibal a 5-0 NCMC home win.

For the first two innings, MHS senior Collin Porter matched Hugenberg, but the Pirates broke through in the bottom of the third. Senior Tyler Wisdom singled with one out, with a walk and an error allowing him to score. Sophomore Jordan Wilson's base hit brought in the frame's second run.

Senior Cody Mundle got a one-out single for Hannibal in the fourth, with a passed ball and dropped third strike putting runners on the corner. Mundle scored on an error and Hugenberg singled to load the bases, but Porter got out of the jam without further damage.

Junior Zach Bishop took over on the mound for the Owls in the fifth, but singles by junior Trevor Anderson and Wisdom followed by junior Dalton Powell's double plated a run -- with a second one crossing on a wild pitch.

That was all for the Pirates (7-6, 6-4 NCMC), but it was enough for Hugenberg, who stranded nine Marshall runners. The Owls' only extra-base hit was a fifth-inning double by senior Collin Brennan.

The loss drops Marshall (10-5, 5-3) to second place in the league standings to Kirksville by a half-game heading into Thursday's clash at Boonville.

Well I never said that both my kids played baseball! Lets see two kids and five sports. Never meant to confuse you. Good win last night Owls! Nice 2 run shot Bishop!

Oh Willie, I do love riddles.

The problem is, in order to solve a riddle, the supporting information must be accurate. "Both your kids"? Since its obvious that there isn't a set of varsity kin, it can only mean that your talking of your son, and one you see as your own. Even at that, your comment isn't completely accurate.

So the real question is, Willie makeit? I sure hope so, he's a good kid, and a pretty good athlete as well.

Huh? You think? I guess we will see how this all "pans" out. Stick with us assistant coaches!

Hmmmmm....... there is only one kid that's played every game the whole game, offense and defense? The point is if there is a problem go to the coach and discuss it with him.

Sorry Oldschool not the problem here. Both my kids have played in every game the whole game!

I've heard many of "concerned parents" before complain about coaches. They seem to always be the parents of kids who, of no fault of their own, just simply aren't talented enough to play, like myself. But Daddy & Mommy think he/she is just the greatest and doesn't understand why they don't play. It's just a game people, if your kid isn't having fun then tell them to switch sports or get another hobby. If your kid is having fun, than back off and let them enjoy themselves. I sat the bench for 4 years and still wouldn't have changed it for the world, you don't have to play to have a blast in high school.

Here we go again. It's high school sports people, we need to keep things in perspective.

Willie, perhaps you should express your concerns to the coach himself or to the athletic director?

I agree totally! Its just hard to see our kids to great, then see them fall. I have a hardtime with a coach who has assistant coaches who the kids respect more than the headcoach himself. A headcoach never undermines a assistant and vice versa! Just my 2 cents.

No one ever fully agrees with everything coaches do. That's why in a matter of games they can go from the toast of a town to a goat, just like that. There are lots of good things happening all over MHS, things the kids and community should be proud of.

As i said before, i would love to chat more. You know where to find me.

Mcnabb really? Lets just say I'm a concerned parent of a MHS athelete...just like you. I just dont agree with "everything" going on with MHS coaching, on all levels.
