James Harold Spencer, 97, of Shelbyville, died Sunday, April 22, 2012, at Salt River Community Care in Shelbina.
Cremation. Private graveside services and burial in Shelby Memorial Cemetery in Shelbyville will be held at a later date. Born March 15, 1915, in the Hunnewell area, he was the son of the late James A. and Cora Phelps Spencer. At 10 months old he was adopted by the late Jesse C. and Ethel Priscilla Spencer. On March 30, 1943, in San Luis Obispo, Calif., he married Helen Ilean Tolle, who preceded in him in death. He was a member of First Christian Church in Shelbyville. He was a farmer and a substitute rural mail carrier. He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army at Camp Roberts, Calif.
He is survived by one daughter, Priscilla McReynolds of Marshall; and two grandchildren, Kyle McReynolds and his wife, Joy, of Columbia, and Heather McReynolds of Marshall; and one great-grandson, Trent McReynolds of Columbia.
