Henry Curtis Kelly, 91, of Marshall, passed away on Friday, April 20, 2012, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall after a long and fruitful life.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 26, 2012, at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Marshall. Visitation will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Burial with military rites will be in the MO State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren: Michael Mullins, Shawn Mullins, Jerrad Kelly, Angie Hoskins Smith, Kirstin Kelly, Nikki Mullins, Michelle Mullins Santiago, Brian Kelly, Samantha Kelly, Danny Hoskins, Sara Kelly and Whitney Kelly. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church in Anderson, Marshall Senior Center Meals on Wheels or Marshall Public Education Foundation "Buddy Pack". Born Nov. 13, 1920, in Hockerville, Okla., he was the son of the late Harry B. Kelly and Verna Hire Kelly. On Aug. 16, 1947, in Anderson, he married Josephine Epperson, who survives of the home. He was a farmer at heart and enjoyed the many years he spent on his farm in Anderson. He graduated from Anderson High School, and later joined the Army Air Corps. He was an aircraft mechanic and flight engineer. Near the end of World War II, he was assigned to the 24th air sea rescue squadron stationed on Okinawa. After being honorably discharged from the U.S. Army as a corporal, he attended college at the University of Missouri Columbia for several years. He returned to Southwest Missouri where he farmed and taught agriculture to other veterans. He worked for Farmers Home Administration for 15 years, eventually being transferred in 1962 to Marshall. He then worked for the Army Corps of Engineers as a land appraiser retiring in 1981, then moving back to Anderson. He enjoyed farming and continued in various aspects of it until once again returning to Marshall in 2003. He stayed active, enjoying going to the YMCA and attending various activities of his grandchildren. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Anderson.
In addition to his wife, Josephine, he is survived by five children, Patty Mullins and her husband, Dean, Dr. Jerry Kelly and his wife, Andi, and Kelly J. Kelly and his wife, Elaine, all of Marshall, Barbara Hoskins and her husband, Bill, of Anderson and Robert Kelly and his wife, Tyara, of Jacksonville, Ala.; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert P. Kelly of Bartlesville, Okla., and Mike Kelly of Warsaw, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
