Douglas "Doug" D. Haase Sr., 60, of Troy, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, at station 2 in St. Charles. He was born on Oct. 3, 1951, in Waverly, he was the son of Louis and Dora (Schutte) Haase. Doug had four older brothers, Gene, Larry, Herb and Don. He met the love of his life, Cathy Rucker, during his high school years. They were joined in holy matrimony on March 14, 1970, in Marshall. They were blessed with a son, Dale. The family resided in Marshall until moving to Lexington and later to Troy in 1975. Doug was tranferred by Orscheln and opened its first store in Troy. Later he worked for the Lincoln County Ambulance District as an E.M.T. In 1984, he began working for the St. Charles City Fire Department as a firefighter/paramedic/engineer. Doug served as a firefighter for the Troy Rural Volunteer Fire Department from 1978 to 1984, where he became the chief from 1980 to 1984. He was a caring and compassionate person his entire life and working to help others was second nature to him. Doug had been a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church since moving to Troy. Most people do not like the thought of snow, but Doug loved to play outdoors with his son and grandsons, sledding and making snowmen. He had a dry sense of humor that could make anyone smile. Doug was a loving and good provider for his family. He will be sadly missed and long remembered by his loving family and friends.

Surviving are his beloved wife Cathy Haase of Troy; his son, Dale Haase and his wife, Robyn; his two adoring grandsons, Doug and Sam; his brothers, Herb Haase and his wife, Darlene, of Hot Springs, Ark., Don Haase and his wife, Norma, of Marshall; his sisters-in-law, Loretta Haase of Shedd, Ore. and Bonnie Haase of Cole Camp; his father-in-law, Wayne Rucker and special friend, Kay Earls, of Boonville; brother-in-law, Larry Rucker and his wife, Raynelle, of Kansas City; sisters-in-law, Becky Silvey of Sedalia and Susan Rucker of Pawhuska, Okla.; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two children, Frederick Haase and Barbara Haase; his two brothers, Warren Eugene Haase and Larry Lee Haase; his mother-in-law, Barbara Rucker; and brother-in-law, Gary Rucker.

A funeral service was held on Monday, Feb. 6, 2012, at McCoy-Blossom Funeral and Cremation Center in Troy. Officiating was Rev. Thomas Larson of Woodstock, Ill. Private interment to follow at a later date in Troy City Cemetery.
