Berneice Payton Luscombe, 92, of Blackwater died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall, with Rev. Tom Owens officiating. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, 2012, at Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry, Iowa. Born May 20, 1919, in Perry, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late John William Payton and Emma Kirgis Payton. She was a graduate of Perry High School. On Sept. 15, 1946, she married Randal C. Luscombe who preceded her in death on May 12, 2004. She had lived in the Blackwater community since 1967, moving from Armstrong, Iowa. While living in Iowa, she taught Sunday school and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Order of the Eastern Star. She was also a member of Blackwater United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two children, Martha Smith of Higginsville and John Luscombe of rural Blackwater; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers.
