FAYETTE -- The Missouri Valley College men's and women's basketball teams were swept in a Heart of America Conference doubleheader Thursday at Central Methodist.
The Lady Vikings were tied at halftime, but CMU went on a second-half run -- making six of 10 attempts from three-point range for a 73-58 victory. The Lady Eagles also cashed in on 32 Valley turnovers for 28 points during the contest.
Sophomore Sammie Gathercole had 18 points, six rebounds and four steals for Methodist (14-11, 11-4 HAAC) -- with senior Sami Dunger scoring 15 points to push her career mark to 1,280 points, seventh on the school's all-time list.
Senior Hannah Young tallied 13 points and freshmen Samantha Kixmiller and Chelsey Merrigan combined for 21 points off the bench for the Lady Vikings (10-14, 6-8).
The Valley men trailed by nine points at halftime while dropping their fifth straight league game, 58-49 to the Eagles.
Junior Eric Franklin topped Central Methodist (12-13, 6-9) with 18 points, while junior Elliott Black added 16 points and seven boards.
The Vikings (9-17, 4-10) got a career-high 26 points from freshman Kevin Stander.
The Valley teams will be at home Saturday to face MidAmerica Nazarene.
