Ethel E. Wood, 93, of Slater, died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012, at Big Bend Retreat in Slater.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012, at Weiker Funeral Home in Slater with Rev. Robert Sisney officiating. Burial will be in Slater City Cemetery with Robert Sherman, John Markovich, Charlie Guthrie and Sam Krog serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church of Slater, Big Bend Retreat or the Ethel Wood Memorial Fund in care of Slater Public Library.
Born Aug. 13, 1918, in Bloomfield, Vt., she was the daughter of the late Fred L. and Ethel Mae Joyce Bartlett. On Aug. 3, 1944, in North Stratford, N.H., she married Lester B. "Peck" Wood, who preceded her in death on Nov. 2, 1981. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Slater and its Golden Circle Sunday School class. She was a graduate of North Stratford High School and Plymouth State University in Plymouth, N.H. She taught in public schools in Vermont and New Hampshire. In 1948, she and her husband purchased The Little Store in Slater, which they owned and operated for over 30 years until their retirement.
She is survived by a son, Brian D. Wood of Williamsburg, Va.; one grandson; and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
