Virginia Lee Whitney, 83, of Columbia, formerly of Marshall, died Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012, at South Hampton Place in Columbia.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012, at Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Marshall, with William W. Harlow officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association. Born Nov. 30, 1928, in Longwood, she was the daughter of the late Lee Roy Pulliam and Blanch Mae Hicks Pulliam. On July 5, 1946, in Lawrence, Kan., she married Floyd James Whitney who preceded her in death in 1965. She worked as a waitress for many years in Marshall and Columbia, and retired as a cashier from the University of Missouri Columbia Bookstore in 1994.
Survivors include four children, Floyd Edward (Eddie) Whitney of Sturgeon, Kenneth Wayne Whitney, Mark Keith Whitney and Joyce Irene Porter, all of Columbia; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, J.L. Pulliam of Marshall; one sister, Jane Cranmore of Rockaway Beach; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, David Pulliam and Bobbie Pulliam; and one sister in infancy.
