Wednesday, January 4, 2012

As the midnight of the new year approached, the Missouri Valley College women's basketball team found its form during a 76-65 non-conference decision over visiting Friends (Kan.).

Trailing by eight points at halftime Saturday, the Lady Vikings dominated the second half by a 44-25 margin -- ending the Lady Falcons' six-game win streak.

Valley controlled the boards by a whopping 36-14 margin and shot 44.3 percent from the field, it's second-most efficient production of the season.

Friends (10-6) got 16 points and four assists from junior Abby Fawcett, but the Lady Vikings enjoyed a 42-16 advantage in scoring off the bench -- with three players in double figures: senior Hannah young (12 points), sophomore Ebone Brown (11) and freshman Chelsey Merrigan (11).

Sophomore Ashley Troyer led Valley in scoring for the first time this season with 15 points, also dishing out five assists and coming up with three steals.

The Lady Vikings (5-7) return to Heart of America Conference action Thursday at Evangel.
