Tina Jo (Wedel) Burton, 46, of Alma, died Sunday, Dec. 25, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alma, with Pastor Fred C. Hertwig officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Tina Jo Burton Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Born Nov. 2, 1965, in Dodge City, Kan., she was the daughter of Don Wedel who survives of El Dorado, Kan. and the late Joann Krehbiel Wedel. She was a 1984 graduate of Remington High School in Whitewater, Kan. and received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1994 and a Masters degree in counseling in 1998 both from Emporia State University. On July 27, 1996, she married Thomas M. (Tom) Burton who survives of the home. She had lived in Alma since 2004 and had been a counselor, teacher and coach at Santa Fe High School in Alma since 2003. Prior to coming to Santa Fe, she was a teacher in Carrollton. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
In addition to her husband and father, she is survived by one son, Dobber J. Burton of the home; one daughter, Josey Ann Burton of the home; two brothers, Todd Wedel of Whitewater, Kan. and Terry Wedel of Potwin, Kan.; her stepmother, Ava Wedel of El Dorado; her father and mother-in-law, Bill and Lynette Burton of rural Carrollton; and several nieces and nephews.
