District Conservationist

There are some dates to remember if you are currently participating in or want to participate in one or more of the programs administered by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS).

NRCS is currently accepting applications for the General, High Tunnel, Organic Farming, On Farm Energy and Air Quality Initiatives of the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) and the Wildlife Habitat Incentive Program (WHIP). Completed applications received at your local office by February 3, 2012 will be considered for funding.

Applications are also being accepted for the Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP). The deadline for consideration in this round of funding is January 13, 2012.

Applicants must complete their Adjusted Gross Income and Conservation Compliance Certifications with the Farm Service Agency (FSA) prior to the cutoff date to have a completed application.

In addition to accepting applications, NRCS is making payments to current participants in the Conservation Security Program and the Conservation Stewardship Program. Participants must present their farm records to the NRCS office for review prior to requesting payment. Payments can be requested after review by signing a request form. NRCS intends to make payments to all participants by April 2, 2012.
