Julius E. (Buddy) Canida, 74, of Marshall, died Sunday, Dec. 25, 2011, at home.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel with Rev. Bill Cook officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at New Hope Cemetery near Lebanon. Memorials may be made to family choice and an online guestbook is available at www.campbell-lewis.com.
Born April 3, 1937, in Marshall, he was the son of the late Julius Ardward Canida and Hurcie Elizabeth Westerfield Canida. On June 2, 1963, he married Nora F. Randles who survives of the home. Buddy had lived in Saline County his entire life where he worked for MFA-Seed Division, Hall and Riley Rock Quarry, ConAgra and then farmed the remainder of his life. He was a member of New Salem Baptist Church at Marshall Junction.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Ruth Ann Canida Howell of Sweet Springs; two brothers-in-law, Herbie Cumpton of Marshall and Junior Griffin of Lebanon; two nieces, Megan Cumpton and her fiancÚ, Geoff Sensel, of Springfield, Sonya Mansker and her husband, Shawn, of Pensacola, Fla.; two nephews, James Griffin and his wife, Judy, and their children, Clint and Mary Ann of Eldridge and Raymond Griffin of Washington, D.C.; a favorite aunt, Carmen Westerfield of Lebanon; several godchildren and great-godchildren (whom always called him "Papa Buddy").
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Jane Cumpton.
