Lawrence W. Gillenwater, 92, of Marshall, formerly of Lee's Summit, died Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.
Inurnment will be held at a later date in Hosey Hill Cemetery in Weir, Kan. Memorials may be made to the Community Cancer Center in Marshall. Friends may sign the online register book at www.campbell-lewis.com.
Born Oct. 15, 1919, in Weir, Kan., he was the son of the late Edward E. Gillenwater and Elsie Cunningham Gillenwater. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. On April 28, 1956, he married Lucy Montieth, who preceded him in death on Aug. 21, 2006. He retired from General Motors and was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Gladstone. He lived in Marshall the last four years moving from Lee's Summit.
Survivors include two sisters, Helen Kennedy of Grove, Okla. and Maxine Short of Marshall; and several several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Vera Landers, Eva Gillenwater and Mary Louise Gillenwater; and one brother, Floyd Gillenwater.
